II–III 1'950,00 €
Ex auction 215 of Fritz Rudolf Kuenker GmbH & Co. KG in Osnabrueck on June 22, 2012, cat. no. 9050. Before ex auction "Orders, Decorations, Medals and Militaria" of Dix Noonan Webb in London on July 5, 2011, cat. no. 431 (there offered as having been conferred upon Dorothy Lyon-Dalberg-Acton, Lady Acton). - According to Ludvigsen (Ludvigsen, Eric Case: Prussian and Other Imperial German Award Statistics - Baden to Württemberg, Hawthorne NJ, 2009) this class with the Red Cross has been conferred only 396 times. Doubtless in all parts originally manufactured piece, of highest rarity, which in reality was conferred upon Maximilian Graf von und zu Arco-Valley (1806-1875), Royal Bavarian Chamberlain, Great Chancellor of the Royal Bavarian House Order of St. George (many thanks to Dr. Peter Sauerwald, Karst, for the verification of the bestowal), father in law of John Emerich Edward Dalberg-Acton, 1st Baron Acton (1834-1902). For further details on this award see: Klietman, Kurt-G.: Der Koenigliche Kronen-Orden Dritter und Vierter Klasse mit dem Roten Kreuz. In: INFO, No. 50 (1987), p. 10. And: Geile, Willi: Im Geiste des Henry Dunant. N: INFO, No. 50 (1987), p. 11-13. - Instituted by King Wilhelm I on October 18, 1861, in occasion of his coronation. According to Estelmann (Estelmann, Mike: Neue Forschungsergebnisse zur Klassifizierung Koeniglich Preussischen Kronenordens. Lecture hold on the Phaleristic Symposium in Altenburg on May 25, 2013) the design of the crown was changed by end 1862 from a heraldic general royal crown with high bows into a one with lower bows, an again by the end of 1868 into a heraldic "large” Prussian royal crown. It had four classes, of which the second had two degrees (with and without breast star). The insignia of the order could be enriched with numerous additional ensigns (swords, swords on the ring, oak leaves, brilliants, jubilee numbers, Cross of Geneva, enamel ribbon of the Order the Red Eagle - combinations possible), similar as with the Order of the Red Eagle. With the end of monarchy in Prussia in November 1918 also the bestowal of this order ceased.
